What is an Eagle Project?
An Eagle Project is one of the final steps for a Boy Scout to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in Scouting. A Scout chooses their project to help an organization by providing a service for them. Some examples of this include building wheelchair access ramps, landscaping for a school, making planters for a church, etc. The Scout’s project requirements include organizing a project plan, raising funds, and leading a team of volunteers to complete the project.
What project have I chosen?
The project I chose will be to lead Scouts, friends, and family on insulating and finishing an interior concrete basement wall at Blue Water Theatre Company, a local community theatre located in an old church. The basement is currently being renovated to make it a rehearsal area. In the basement, there is a solid concrete wall which provides little insulation in the winter months, making the area uncomfortable for its members. The project plan is to frame the wall, add insulation, and adhere a wall board finish. One additional item we will do is paint the wall boards with a chalkboard paint, allowing members to express themselves artistically.
Who is Blue Water Theatre?
Blue Water Theatre is a nonprofit community organization whose mission is “to create a theatre community for young people through meaningful and transformative experiences” (bluewatertheatre.com). Blue Water Theatre was formed in 2007 by Charlie Leonard and is located in a church originally built in 1916. It provides not only a theatre experience for grades 6-12, but also teaches its members good values and to be responsible and caring young adults.
How will donations help?
A team of volunteers will help with the construction, but we could use your help with the cost of this project’s materials. The materials will include items such as 2×4 wood, insulation, sealants and paint, with an estimated cost of $1,285. To the extent you are able to contribute, I would really appreciate your support. This project is a necessary improvement to
Blue Water Theatre as it will allow its members to use the rehearsal space year round. In addition, completion of the project is important to me, and will be a major step for me to earn the highest rank in Scouting.
